Inflated skincare and cosmetics price in Australia (20 posts)
I know I not the only one who thinks the prices of skincare and cosmetics are grossly inflated compared to overseas price. Brands like EL, Lancome, Clinique, etc. are MUCH cheaper in US. Perfumes are disgustingly expensive, too, I buy most of mine overseas because of that.
I wonder why we being conned like that. Just because Australia is at the bottom end of the world doesn mean companies can charge through the nose under the pretext of "expensive shipping cost",louis vuitton pas cher.
The prices here are really silly but we often don have a choice so we have to buy it.
I was so surprised when I was in Poland a couple of months ago and I found a Maybelline Mascara which is sold for $17AUD here (Woolies price) was being sold for $3AUD there but then again their wages are approx 1/4 of what our is on average but if the company can afford to sell Maybelline for $3 I cannot see why ours is at $17, the best price I have ever paid here is $5 for Maybelline mascara on reduced to clear :(
Don even get me started on this topic! It makes me so fustrated and angry. But luckily online shopping is wonderful and you can get some wonderful bargains (usually shipping is free as well). I must admit I get excited when the postman delivers random boxes to my desk it like Christmas all year round.
On another topic, I hear whispers that Sephora is coming to Australia. This is very exciting but dampened by the fact that they will charge the usual through the roof prices. I wonder how it will go.
I hate that we get charged so much! I don know what we ever did without online shopping. I seriously don understand how Myer and David Jones are making money in the cosmetics area. With sales decreasing more and more becauase of people shopping online, it would make a lot of sense for them to drop their prices. Surely they are also able to source the products more cheaply too because of the exchange rate.
The only thing I really buy in store are the Chanel nail polishes, I can help myself. THeir shades are just so great. Other than that, I stay well away from the counters and shop online.
The only stores that have lowered their prices are Louis Vuitton and Gucci. T C slightly did, but nothing compared to the US. I have been lusting after an hermes bagle which is $860 AUD and in the USA its $360$420. Absolutely ridiculous. |
